METRO Cash & Carry Niš celebrates third anniversary

After opening two stores in Belgrade and one in Central Serbia (Kragujevac) and Vojvodina (Novi Sad), METRO Cash & Carry Serbia has opened its first store in Niš in November 2006. In Southern Serbia where jobs are hard to find and economy faces stagnation, METRO employs 186 people and helps the local community to develop and small traders to run their business in our country.

METRO Cash & Carry Serbia is proudly celebrating the third anniversary of its first store in South Serbia, in Niš, in the year of the 45th anniversary of METRO Cash & Carry. The fifth store that METRO has opened in Serbia occupies around 10.000sqm of shopping space. METRO has invested EUR 16mn in the construction of the store that has 186 employees at present.

METRO store in Niš was built like a typical METRO store (it is one of over 650 METRO stores in 30 countries throughout the world): it is modern and spacious, and occupies 9.900sqm of shopping space. Its assortment includes around 25.000 products: it is comprised mostly of domestic products (70 percent) and METRO own brands (10 percent).

Speaking of the third anniversary of the METRO Cash & Carry store in Niš, the store manager Stojan Vidojković said that in the South of Serbia big foreign investments were very significant for the local community, adding that the example of METRO store in Niš with 186 staff proved that the economic survival of a region greatly depended on conditions for the arrival of foreign investors and their business.

Within its donor activities, the company has been investing in the local community through several donations of products and presents for children.

To mark the anniversary of successful work of its store in Niš, METRO has prepared a special birthday offer for its professional customers on the exact date of the anniversary, on November 9th, 2009.
