The processing companies in Macedonia are offering MKD 4.5 to 5.5 for every kilogram of tomatoes, but producers are still dissatisfied.
The processing companies in Macedonia are offering MKD 4.5 to 5.5 for every kilogram of tomatoes, but producers are still dissatisfied.
This is the outcome of a meeting between the Macedonian Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Ace Spasenovski, tomato growers and representatives of the canning industry which was held on Wednesday, September 3.
In the past week and a half, a 5,000-ton tomato surplus has accumulated, while the processing capacities can accept around 270 tons of tomatoes per day.
A kilogram of greenhouse tomatoes is worth MKD 17 to 22, claim farmers, while traders are currently offering around MKD 6 per kilogram.
Spasenovski expects that this tomato surplus issue will be solved after September 15, when export to neighboring countries should resume.
