Cyprus, Syria eye construction of undersea telecoms cable

Cyprus Telecommunications Authority (Cyta) and Syrian Telecommunications Establishment signed a memorandum of understanding on construction of an undersea telecoms cable link between the two countries.

Also among a package of accords was revision of international call rates between Cyprus and Syria, Cyta said in a statement.

“The agreements reaffirm the strategic role of Cyta as a major cable hub in the Eastern Mediterranean and an excellent center of telecommunications services in the region,” the statement said.

Attending the signing ceremony was Syria’s telecommunications and technology minister, Imad Sabouni
