The center for the Prevention and Control of Transmissible Diseases reported another 28 cases of A/H1N1 flu infection identified in the week August 17 - 23; Romania's tally of confirmed novel influenza A/H1N1 infections hit 281.

According to the Health Ministry, Romania is one of the eight European countries that have the capacity to produce the vaccine against the new flu strain.

Pre-clinical tests (animal tests) are underway at the 'Cantacuzino' Bucharest National Research and Development Institute for the production of the vaccine. Romanian researchers expect this stage to end in late September and clinical tests are due to start on Oct. 1. The next step would be the production of the vaccine. The Institute's vial-filling capacity is five million doses, said the Health Ministry.
