The Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning stated that today Serbia will mark the International Ozone Layer Protection Day together with 194 signatory countries of the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer and the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer.

The statement adds that Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning Oliver Dulic has invited citizens to contribute to the protection of the ozone layer by joining the ‘Be an Ozone-Friendly Consumer’ campaign.

This year the Ministry and the Ozone Office are marking this day, together with the Vojvodina Association of Consumers and Serbia’s National Consumer Organisation (NOPS).

The ‘Be an Ozone-Friendly Consumer’ campaign aims to inform the public about the ozone layer depletion problem and its consequences.

Consumers will be informed about products in the market that do not contain substances that deplete the ozone layer.

The celebration of the International Ozone Layer Protection Day is financed from the Multilateral Fund for Implementing the Montreal Protocol through the UN Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), intended for projects that raise public awareness in developing countries.

From midday until 6 pm stands where citizens can be informed about ozone-friendly products will be opened in major squares in ten cities: Belgrade, Novi Sad, Nis, Kragujevac, Krusevac, Pancevo, Sabac, Zrenjanin, Novi Pazar and Kikinda.

The Ozone Office and the Ministry invite all citizens to join the campaign and visit the stands to learn how to become ozone-friendly consumers.

This year’s celebration of the International Ozone Layer Protection Day is held under the slogan ‘Universal Participation: Protection of the Ozone Layer Unites the World’.
